Meilene - Bundaberg
Spiritus Meilene, providing residential care to the older members of our community, was opened at Meilene Street, Bundaberg in 1996.
The word Meilene means “welcome” or “come to my place” in the language spoken by indentured labourers from the Pacific Islands who cut cane on the property. It was the name of the original homestead on the property purchased by the Bundaberg Anglican Parish from bequests and funds raised.
Meilene has four ‘houses’ each have their own lounge, dining room and kitchenettes. There are two ‘houses’ of 10 single rooms with ensuites and two with 16 rooms. All rooms have television and telephone outlets, and are fitted with emergency call systems.
A low-care respite bed is available in a single ensuited room.
Activities and outings appropriate to the interests and care needs of our residents are arranged and supervised by Diversional Therapists.
Eligibility
Those who are aged 60 years or over who have been assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team
as requiring care.
Quality Assurance
We are fully accredited by the Aged Care Standards Agency and our staff receive ongoing education and professional development to ensure we continue to meet the changing health care needs
of our residents.

Also on the Spiritus Meilene grounds is Meilene Court with 27 resident-funded Independent Living Units (ILUs). These separate buildings offer full independence of lifestyle in a secure and familiar village setting. Each ILU is fitted with an emergency call system.
