Kirami is an Aboriginal word for a “place of care” or “home”.  Spiritus Kirami, providing residential care for the older members of our community, was opened at Banksia Street, Point Vernon, the northern point of Hervey Bay, in 1991.  The grounds are set in bush setting and parts of our grounds have beautiful views of Fraser Island.  Native birds inhabit the trees and shrubs, adding to the pleasant relaxing environment for our residents.

The six wings of Kirami contain 50 single rooms with ensuites (one permanently designated as a respite room). Each wing has its own lounge, dining room, and kitchen. All the bedrooms have a large wardrobe, shelf storage, a set of drawers, and a television antenna and telephone outlet. People with dementia can reside in one of two wings specially designed to enable these residents to live comfortably and securely.

A central area contains a hairdressing salon and canteen, offices, the main kitchen and laundry. Also available are the services of a beautician and massage therapist as well as a visiting physiotherapist and podiatrist. There is a large community area with ample space for all residents to meet together and enjoy social activities such as concerts, singing, fun games, and bingo.

Visits from volunteers who will just sit and chat with someone who may not otherwise have visitors, or make their talents available to be part of craft activities, are an important part of the lifestyle our residents enjoy.

We have a tradition of fun competition against other nursing homes with us all participating in armchair sports. 

Our residents can go on weekly bus trips to shops, the library or one of the many beautiful picnic areas with which the Bay is blessed.

Weekly Anglican church services are held on site, and a monthly Communion is conducted by the priests of the local Roman Catholic church.
