Operation Kinder Community - Riverview
OKC (Operation Kinder Community) is a community-based counselling organisation servicing the greater Ipswich/West Moreton Region.
Through the provision of therapeutic preventative and early intervention strategies to children, youth and families, OKC’s primary goal is to prevent / reduce child abuse and neglect, and family breakdown and distress.
OKC offers a vast and innovative range of counselling, support and socio-education services to children, young people and families. The predominant model of service delivery involves the provision of individual and family based therapy utilising an ecological framework.
The services offered at OKC include:
- Family Support Service - This service specifically assists marginalised, low income families and children and young people from the age of 5 years and onwards. Adults accessing parenting and/or family issues are also eligible. The variety of therapeutic and support services offered include:
- counselling (centre based and outreach)- e.g.: behaviour problems, anger management, grief & loss, anxiety, depression, abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), neglect & attachment issues, self-esteem, bullying/social skills.
- group therapy programs- eg: Protective Behaviours, Social Skills, Anger Management
- family and individual support
- Reconnect Program - This program provides early intervention / prevention services to young people and their parents/carers through the provision of counselling, mediation, support and advocacy. Young people aged 12-18 years who are at risk of leaving home or have recently left home (less than 12 weeks out of home) and their families are eligible for this service.
- Creating Resilient Children Project This is a school-based program that aims to reduce the incidence of harm to children and build their resilience and self-protection skills. Primary school-aged children can access this program in the Ipswich region to participate in protective behaviours education, social and anger management groups. Information sessions for parents will also be conducted to provide skills to assist their children regarding these issues.
