TRACC Strengthening Families Service - Caboolture
Spiritus TRACC ~ Strengthening Families Service operates Programs in Caboolture and Gympie. Programs are funded primarily through the Department of Child Safety and provide services for children and families in which child protection is an identified issue. The Service operates with a strength based framework working respectfully, honestly and transparently with children, young people and families.
Programs based at Caboolture provide services to the Caboolture and Redcliffe areas and include Foster and Kinship Care, Intensive Family Based Support and Family Support. Based in Gympie programs include Cooloola Foster Care and the Tufnell Children’s Home, a residential program for children.
Foster and Kinship Care programs recruit, train and supervise Foster Carers. Children and young people referred by the Department of Child Safety are placed with TRACC Foster Carers through Foster Care Workers. In collaboration with the Department of Child Safety, training, support groups and other activities are provided to assist Foster Carers to provide the highest quality of care for children placed with their family.
The Tufnell Children’s Home in Gympie provides care for up to 4 children recently removed from the care of their parents. Large sibling groups can also be accommodated at the specially designed house which is staffed by House Parents assisted by rostered Support Workers. Children remain in the Home for up to 3 months to allow an assessment to occur so that they can then be placed appropriately either in Foster Care or returned with assistance to their families.
Intensive Family Based Support, based in Caboolture, provides in home Family Workers who assist families referred by the Department of Child Safety to address the safety and protection needs of their children. This work includes 10 – 15 hours in the home per week and assists families to develop and work towards goals around their family safety and parenting needs. The model is based on the Family Preservation Model widely used in the USA. Data and evaluation tools such as the North Carolina Family Assessment Scale are used to capture the developments achieved by the families during the work period of 6-12 weeks. A period of follow up occurs after the initial intensive interaction with families being involved in family counselling and group work.
The Family Support Program in Caboolture incorporates the Building Futures Program which is a volunteer based educational program that assists children, particularly foster children and children from families working with Intensive Family Based Support, to address educational and social goals. Volunteers work with children in home once a week and undertake educational programs in line with the child’s needs. Outings to libraries, museums and other appropriate places broaden the interaction to include opportunities for social skill development.
TRACC Strengthening Families Service operates between 8.30am – 5.00pm.
