St Martin's Taigum

Your Path: Home | Services & Locations | Brisbane North | Residential Care | St Martin's Taigum

Established in 1982, St Martin’s was named after St Martin’s Hospital, previously in Ann Street, Brisbane, which was converted for use as St Martin’s House, the Diocesan Registry. As a result of the concern expressed about the conversion of the hospital, the nursing home took the name of St Martin’s.

Part of our Taigum campus located at 304 Roghan Road on Brisbane’s northside, St Martin’s accommodates its residents in one of three wings. Each wing has four single rooms and nine shared rooms, with a lounge /dining room and kitchenette. All the bedrooms include a large wardrobe, shelf storage, a set of drawers, and a television antenna and telephone outlet.

A central block contains offices, a hairdressing salon and the main kitchen and laundry, and a large community area provides ample space for all residents to enjoy the company of others and a variety of social activities organised by our Diversional Therapist. We have ‘Theme’ days like Anzac Day and Ekka Day as well as concerts with visiting musicians entertaining us. Our craft group is very active and always welcomes new members.

Our music therapist conducts both group and individual music experiences which many of our residents enjoy immensely.

Bus trips in conjunction with Symes Grove residents happen weekly, including seasonal highlights such as  viewing the Christmas light displays, barbecues at interesting locations – it’s the residents’ decision.

A weekly Anglican church service is part of our activities for those who wish to attend, and there are also visits from a Roman Catholic priest and representatives from any other religion as required.
The Men’s Shed is a popular area for many of our men who can tinker and ‘do men’s stuff’ in company of others of similar interests.

Symes Grove caters for people whose first language is not English, with a number of staff fluent in other languages and visitors from various cultural backgrounds who are happy to come and talk with our residents to keep them in touch with their own language.

Residents with dementia are also catered for in a secure and comfortable environment.

Our residents are pleased to share our common grounds and many social activities with the residents of St Martin’s.
