More than $620,000 for Roma’s services to families

The Bligh Government is investing more than $620,000 over three years in support services for families, children and young people in Roma.

Child Safety Minister Phil Reeves said $624,819 will be provided to Spiritus TRACC’s Roma Family Intervention Service.

“This service provides support to vulnerable children and young people aged up to 18 years, and their families,” Mr Reeves said.

“This may include practical help with home management, or counselling for children and young people with complex or special needs, and their families.

“With this funding Spiritus TRACC at Roma can help more local families to stay and grow together.

“On top of the necessary support services, this funding will also create and sustain more than two full time equivalent jobs.”

Mr Reeves said the funding is part of the Bligh Government’s $733 million commitment to child protection this financial year.

“This Government is committed to providing the necessary support services and safe, stable and supportive homes for the more than 8000 children and young people who cannot live safely at home,” he said.

“We understand some Queensland families are doing it tough and we want to provide them with the right support at the right time to keep their children safe.

“Spiritus TRACC at Roma is one of many community organisations working in partnership with the Queensland Government to deliver better outcomes for children and young people in need.

“We are committed to working with non-government organisations across the state.

“The Bligh Government has made the tough economic decisions to ensure we can continue to support our NGO partners.”
